Marvelous Monday

Today, it's not so much about the colors as it is the shapes. Here are some nice shapes which were used in these geometric retro vintage fabrics. These are all fairly collectible. Do any look familiar? You might show your age, but I'll never tell ;o) Have a marvelous Monday!

BAO Item of the Week

This week, we have nine artists who have special items they're promoting. Click on the picture for their details. Have fun!

Northern Lights and Fire Rainbow

I received this via an email today and thought I would share it here as it is so beautiful! "This is a fire rainbow - the rarest of all naturally occurring atmospheric phenomena. The picture was captured this week on the Idaho/Washington border. The event lasted about 1 hour. Clouds have to be cirrus, at least 20K feet in the air, with just the right amount of ice crystals and the sun has to hit the clouds at precisely 58 degrees."

Bead Show

Tomorrow is my bead show. Usually in the past, I work until the last moment. Well, I've finally done myself a favor. Last night, I packed up everything, checked my list, and am good to go. What a great feeling that is. I was hoping with this method, it would give my mind that space to think about anything else that I could possible need. I guess it worked. I realized last year at this show people were picking up everything they thought they might want and then they'd go through their elimination process. I saw as many people struggled with holding a rather large handful of beads. So . . . tomorrow, I will be bringing wide bowls for anyone who needs one. I guess it's one of those slap yourself on the head obvious things ;o).

For the past three years, I have had no time to exercise. Too much going on. A month ago I made a promise that I would start. It was time to make the time! In our town we have a lake that is over a mile long. Just about every day I've been walking with a friend first thing in the a.m. for 3.4 miles. I even bring my dog. But the really cool thing is today, as I was driving home, I realized it was only 9:46. What was my problem? I guess it's that p word again . . . procrastination. I've realized it still gives me plenty of time to spend in the studio. And the stress I've been feeling with having way too much to do? Totally gone! I know they say exercise is good for stress but it truly is remarkable! It's a win - win. Good for me, good for the dog, and the discipline of the walking schedule really focuses me when I am in the studio.

Out of Inspiration - From the Studio

One of my more recent "marvelous Monday" posts was about Karen Kamentzky and her fiber art. I had printed this picture out and hung it in my studio for inspiration.
The other day, I laid out a bunch of colors I wanted to work with. Lapis and gold were some of those colors. I made some designs and today I got around to photographing them. As soon as I made the bead I turned to look at the picture above. OK - not quite the same colors, but I have to believe something subconscious was going on. Now I'll really have to pay attention and see how I can replicate the colors better. But as I analyze this, I now realize another reason why her piece is so gorgeous. It's the gold circles against the purple background and what appears to be a metallic shift in colors. I just love those jewel tones!

BAO Item of the Week

I've been working feverishly every moment I have to prepare for my show this Saturday. I'll be at the Bead Affaire Show put on by Beadesigners International. It's held in Watertown at the Armenian Church from 10 - 5. It's one of the best shows in Massachusetts (so I hear). All wonderful bead artists! Here's one of my new beads. I'm also going to be introducing something new at the show. More about that next week!

This week, as part of the BAO team, I have a special on my "Golden Rhapsody" necklace.

And of course, to see all of my members specials click on the photo for more details! It's a big week with items from 15 of our members! Click on the photo for more details.

Marvelous Monday

Being a rather big fan of color and texture, I've found a great source for inspiration in fiber art. I've blogged about various fiber artists in the past - and if I tagged them properly I could link you here, here and here. :o) Today, I came across a wonderful artist who makes gorgeous quilts. Her colors are amazing, I love how the patterns move the eye through the piece.

The artist's name is Janet Steadman and she lives in the Puget Sound area. Take a look at her website and enjoy her work. But if you love pictures of a gorgeous sunset, you don't want to miss the sunset on her "About The Artist" page.

Tool of the Month

Every now and then I stumble onto some wonderful tool or something that could be used as a tool. I'd read about Tool Magic and thought it sounded like something I needed. It took a little while for me to get around to ordering it but I'm sure glad I did! If any of you out there work with wire, and there's quite a few of us, then this is something you need to have in your studio. When making ear wires, the last thing you want is your pliers to mark up the metal. I've used alligator tape in the past as well as masking tape. But the problem with those I never found them to be 100% reliable. And always messy with the "gunk" that's left on your pliers once you remove it. But Tool Magic has changed my life. It's fairly inexpensive (a quick google brought me this). You just dip your pliers into the solution, let them dry and then you're good to go. Simply no more tool marks on your metal! And it lasts at least a few weeks on the pliers! And when they start to peel, just peel it off and start with a fresh coat. No affiliation - just one happy customer!
