I spent a little more time working on what I guess is called my Morrisonite project. If you've noticed, I hadn't really made anything from the sheets I created. So I figured it was time. Because there is so much variation in color with this stone, I took the liberty to use the colors and patterns I like most. So, what I first did was focus on a section of a stone and enlarge that area. Here's a few pieces that developed.
And here's what I learned: I like what I'm seeing with the blues, but the pinkish coral is too flat. It needs at least a little variation. The dark blue vein in the right hand stone feels too wide. I have to say, these don't photograph nearly as nice as they are in person. Especially the cab on the left. There is a fair amount of translucent pc in it and you really don't get a sense from the pictures.
As I was cleaning up, I noticed a a morrisonite photo that had a little gold in it. So I had to try a sheet with some gold. I tried to find the photograph of the original stone I had printed off the computer - but couldn't find it. Right now, this is my favorite. It's 2" x 1 1/2".
Over vacation week I had come across a stone on Etsy that caught my attention. My AADD (artistic attention deficit disorder) must have kicked in because I started mixing colors. Here's the original stone I had seen - it's called a Koroit Boulder Opal. There's so much variation in stone to stone that it really does give you the freedom to take what you like and use that.

I think using some white would have helped this piece. Again, the photograph doesn't show all the chatoyancy that's there. I think what I'll do in the future is photograph it at different angles and see if that helps.
